anytime i mention this DIY to folks, they tell me how amazing it is. 

for the boo's 30th birthday, i surprised him with a coupon book of 30 coupon surprises that he can redeem whenever! this is a simple DIY that you can hand do or create on the computer.  here's how i did mine:

i cut the paper into 8 even rectangles and then created all of the dashed lines on each slip. i created a list of coupons i wanted to give the boo so i went through my list and freehanded the writing and the drawings.

after they were all done, i wrapped them in some string and gave it to the boo. he really loved this gift so i promise you that your man will love it too! especially the "get out of this fight for free card" (although, you should create some rules and regulations for that one card).

then you know a DIY is coming.

i glitterized those shoes using the same technique that other bloggers are using these days to glitter shoes. but i wanted to put a little spin on it so i wanted them to look a bit like the universe.

materials

shoes you want to glitter (i paid $30 for these)

big jar of white glitter

blue glitter (i didn't use nearly as much of this as i thought i would)

packs of glitter dust in colors you want

tacky glue

glitter glue tubes

bowls

paintbrush

 because you can get a DIY shoe glitter tutorial anywhere, i'll spare you those details. what i will tell you to do is divide up the white glitter into 4 or more bowls and mix in the glitter dust packets. i mixed a few similar colors together with the white glitter for that space-y feel.

then go to town glittering in sections. i would paint an area with glue and then pour the glitter on top. after the whole shoe was glittered, i then used my glitter glues as an adhesive on top. now, don't get me wrong - there was glitter EVERYWHERE after i wore these, but i have a feeling there would have been way more had i not used the glitter glue on top.

this was also a 2 day process for me so you have to be patient. i threw on some ny ink episodes and went to town.

D's DIY

i am a super duper huge fan of these boots i saw on mr. kate:

and i had to DIY them for myself.

so, here's my process for making my own version of those.

materials:

cowboy boots

2 belts

bandana

fabric

string

beads

sewing kit

i took a pair of steve madden cowboy boots i bought a really long time ago and folded them over.

i like symmetry so i made sure i choose materials that i would be able to cut in half and use on both (except for the belts).

from left to right:

2 belts from my dad, a really long belt from mexico that i've never worn, a belt from a dress i owned a long time ago from h&m, a red leather string with some skull beads, a bandana and some beads.

step 1:

i cut the bandana in half and tied it to the boot.

step 2:

because i'm terrified of stuff falling off the boots, i actually sewed the edge to both boots:

step 3:

i tied the mexican belt to both pairs of boots. i didn't reinforce it by sewing it because i knew there was going to be a bunch of other stuff on top of it (plus - i sewed a little in the next step).

step 4:

i sewed one edge of the other belt to the boots. i mainly did that because after i cut this belt in half, i knew that i wouldn't be able to tie it around the boot the way i would have liked to.

so instead, i wrapped the material around the boot and tied the edge to the bandana:

after i tied the leather string with skull beads, this is what the back of the boots looked like: 

 step 5:

i made holes in the belts because the ones on them weren't at the right location on the belt (i didn't take pics of this process because i used a hammer and a nail and it was dangerous). then i wrapped the belts around the boots twice.

VIOLA! the finished boot:

no eye makeup

i have a confession to make: i love eye makeup. 

it's almost to the point of obsession. maybe it's the artist in me that loves playing around with eye makeup? which is why you will probably never catch me leaving the house without mascara, eyeliner and some eye shadow on. either way, this obsession started years ago (after college) when i first started experimenting with makeup.

but, here is a pic of yours truly with no eye makeup on:

there is, of course, a story behind why i am not wearing any eye makeup in this pic (and why my eye looks so funny in this pic). late last night, something got into my eye and i desperately tried to get it out for over an hour. i started freaking out, the boo took me to the ER and 2 hours later i returned home with a numb eyeball. i woke up 2.5 hours later to get up for work and my eye still had the sensation of something being in it. so i started to worry even more.

i went to work, called my primary doctor, set up an appointment for 12:20 and ran over there. my doc didn't even look at my eye--she immediately sent me to the optometrist where they did the normal eye tests (20/20 vision, holler!) and then the doc examined me. i have a strange fear of anyone putting drops in my eyes or touching my eyes or flipping my eyelids so i was bugging out inside. luckily, doc was really sweet and promised to get me all better before my bday on monday. she did end up flipping my lid and found the teeny tiniest of smut under there and removed it. i was given some antibiotic eye drops and sent on my way.

i figured i would take a break from eye makeup for the next day or two until my eye feels better. i am hoping to be all better by my bday on monday (even though when i asked the boo about doing dinner on monday. he looked at me as though i have 15 heads...sigh). but here i am--no eye makeup, on my blog. hopefully i don't look too crazy/weird looking/blah.

happy mother's day!

this year i decided to make my boo's mother and my own mother a nice little gift to celebrate their wonderfulness.

nothing says THANK YOU more than a potted herb garden...lol.

i headed to stew leonard's to pick up the materials...boy was that crazy. shopping for plant herbs, pots and soil can be difficult. but i did it.

i took it all out to the yard, grabbed dunkin and sat there for a good ten minutes.

the weather was just wonderful.

if this is a project you'd like to one day do for yourself, you'll need the following:

a large pot

potting soil

little shovel

4 types of herb plants (i choose basil, mint, parsley and chives for this one)

and then for fun you can get a garden gnome for the pot and make flags to tell each herb apart!

basically, i used the shovel to layer the soil in the pot and then put the plants where i wanted them. i filled up the gaps between each plant with more soil until it was all even. after all of the potting, i watered the plants, made flags with the names of the herbs using coffee straws, paper and tape and VIOLA! that was it.

best mother's day present EVER.
