D's DIY

i am a super duper huge fan of these boots i saw on mr. kate:
and i had to DIY them for myself.

so, here's my process for making my own version of those.

materials:
cowboy boots
2 belts
bandana
fabric
string
beads
sewing kit

i took a pair of steve madden cowboy boots i bought a really long time ago and folded them over.

i like symmetry so i made sure i choose materials that i would be able to cut in half and use on both (except for the belts).
from left to right:
2 belts from my dad, a really long belt from mexico that i've never worn, a belt from a dress i owned a long time ago from h&m, a red leather string with some skull beads, a bandana and some beads.
 close up:

step 1:
i cut the bandana in half and tied it to the boot.

step 2:
because i'm terrified of stuff falling off the boots, i actually sewed the edge to both boots:

step 3:
i tied the mexican belt to both pairs of boots. i didn't reinforce it by sewing it because i knew there was going to be a bunch of other stuff on top of it (plus - i sewed a little in the next step).

step 4:
i sewed one edge of the other belt to the boots. i mainly did that because after i cut this belt in half, i knew that i wouldn't be able to tie it around the boot the way i would have liked to.
so instead, i wrapped the material around the boot and tied the edge to the bandana:

after i tied the leather string with skull beads, this is what the back of the boots looked like:

 step 5:
i made holes in the belts because the ones on them weren't at the right location on the belt (i didn't take pics of this process because i used a hammer and a nail and it was dangerous). then i wrapped the belts around the boots twice.

VIOLA! the finished boot:

i can't wait to wear these out!

sammy b / casual style

yesterday, i attended the sammy b designs runway show where i got to see my favorite knowles sister, solange, checking out the fashion. sammy's designs were seriously amazing and i'm super proud to know her. if you follow me on twitter, you probably read enough about everything i saw there.

unfortunately, i didn't snap a pic of my outfit. or the designs from the show.
but! i figured i would be able to get pics from the show somewhere...so stayed tuned. i promise to get those up.

i do have pics from my sunday, casual style:

outfit details: sweatshirt - target, shorts - old navy (they were my dad's), ring and penguin necklace - f21, skull bracelet - created by fortune, gold bracelet - my sis bought for me so ask her

so glamorous.

FNO

i had a hard time posting these pics the other night so i'm finally getting around to doing it now.

i've never attended NY FNO but this year i decided that i NEEEEEEEEEDED to go. although i was feeling nervous about it because i hate crowds and worry about how unfashionable i look, i decided to head out and brave it. i'm glad i did!

you can see my pics from the night on my tumblr or twitter.

here's my outfit though:

outfit details: skirt & indian head necklace - f21, shirt - old navy (i cut this to make it a cropped top), shoes - rainbow (they're way too big for me though so if you want to buy them off of me for $20, email me!), clock necklace - street vendor

isn't this bracelet AMAZING!!! my seriously talented friend/old roomie, created by fortune, gave it to me. you can get one for yourself here.

the basics of my night:
* checked out the laureluxe piece at the pratt manhattan alum show. it was AMAZING!
* tried to get into the alexander mcqueen store but the line was ridiculous. so i kept it moving.
* walked around the meatpacking district and did some serious people watching. i love people watching.
* didn't buy a damn thing.

not sure i would ever seriously do FNO again...maybe i would do it to people watch...? idk...the jury is still out on that...

happy NYFW!!

tomorrow marks the beginning of ny fashion week and i'm nervous. i will be attending a few fashion night out event's tomorrow, then the modcloth swapaholics event on friday, and my girl's fashion show on monday. what's a girl to wear?!? ekkkkkkkkkkkk!

but, for now, i thought i would snap a pic of my new favorite necklace combo.
details: indian head necklace - f21, watch necklace - from a street vendor, shirt - h&m

oh--and have i forgotten to mention that i'm doing a modified raw food diet? that's right, you read that correctly. 3 days a week i am trying to stick to eating raw foods (breakfast can be whatever i want though). let's see how this goes...

fall...?

where did the summer go?!?

it got away too quickly and now i'm already dreaming about pumpkin latte's and apple cider, sweater and boot weather, halloween costumes and parties, and when the leaves start to change color and the air is a little crisp. yes, fall is one of my favorite seasons.

but before i totally throw summer completely away, i am going to enjoy every single night that i can to enjoy drinks outdoors with friends. that, i promise. and this weekend was no exception! labor day weekend brought lots of catching up, lots of outdoor at night activities, and a lot of relaxation. wooosahhhhhhhh. it felt good.

i didn't get a ton of pics of the weekend (go figure) but my best friend did snap this one of us out on friday night:

i don't think there are words to describe how wonderful it was to catch up with her, as well as get to know her new boo. <3

would it be wrong to vow to take more pics? i feel like i make that promise to myself all of the time and then i fail miserably. but...i am! i promise!
